Before I bid my last goodbye..

My internship days at DYAB 1512, ABS-CBN has finally come into an end. Parting ways may be the hardest thing to do but as a famous premise says, “Nothing is permanent; everything must come into an end”. Some says, it only takes 2 weeks to form a routine and more than that is a lifetime habit. My stay at DYAB was really a habit for me.
I have been used to coming to station every Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and some Saturdays and look forward to the tasks that will be assign to me. DYAB provided me so many opportunities that once in my life, I did not imagine to happen. I have recognized by my neighbors as part of DYAB. Some of our local officials in Cordova are putting pressures on my shoulder, they even ask me to cover some events because they have known that I have been part of the most trusted news organization.
And who would have thought that I was one of those luckiest people to be able to cover and witness the honorary rites of the new Cebu archbishop Jose Palma. I can’t also forget my coverage during the Traslacion or the transferring of the image of Snr. Sto. Nino from Talisay City to Saint Joseph National Shrine Parish. My temper and patience was tested because at the very last minute before the image of Snr Sto. Nino arrived, my senior reporter back out for the coverage because of his health problem. Although it disappoints me but I know my DYAB family is just testing me if I can handle the situation. i had the most memorable field coverage during the Sinulog 2011. I was there when the rain poured during the Sinulog sa Kabataan-Dakbayan and Lalawigan. I did enjoy the company of Ms. Carmi Cavanlit during our coverage for the Sinulog 2011 Grand Mardi Gras were the two of us had the chance to bond under the rain and along the street of Fuente Osmeña.
There are a lot more memorable experiences that I have encountered. But I don't have the privileged of time to unfold it all. One thing I am sure of, those memoirs are keep within me throughout my existence.

On Cue: A taste of TV for a while

It is always been my dream to work for ABS-CBN ever since. And that dream of mine was realize when the TV News department of ABS-CBN asked our DYAB desk if they could lend three interns to be part of their team during the Sinulog 2011 Grand Mardi Gras. Luckily, I was one of those chosen interns.

I was paired with Ms. Carmi Cavanlit and her cameraman. We were assigned at Fuente Osmeña Circle
up to the gate of Cebu City Sports Complex. We have to do a tape as live reporting of what is happening outside the Grandstand. The tasked that was assigned to me was not that easy. I could not imagined how many times I walked from Fuente Osmeña to Cebu City Sports Complex because I need to give the tape of the report we had recorded for its airing.
Amidst the aching feet and cramp muscles, I was still eager to give my best in everything we did for that day. Being with Ms. Carmi is so amazing. It is maybe because we are both Josenians. She shared a lot of her experiences in work that made me realized that I really want to be in the Media.
But, what I like more with my partner is that, in everything I did for her on that day, was she never fails to say thank you. Its really worth the tiresome tasks.

My Sinulog 2011 radio coverage..

Sinulog is the most awaited celebration that the Cebuanos look forward to. My Sinulog 2011 was totally a different experience from the past Sinulog that I had. It is because I am no longer a mere observer by this time, but a newbie reporter intern.

It started with our coverage for Sinulog Kick off Parade where we had to walk from Basilica del Santo Nino to Cebu City Sports Complex, to Sinulog sa Kabataan Sa Lalawigan and Dakbayan.

A stolen shot taken by me while waiting for Mr. June B. to hand me the phone.
Sinulog sa Kabataan Sa Lalawigan coverage is where contingents from different elementary and high schools in the province of Cebu compete.  I was with Mr. June Berongan as my senior reporter during this time. The coverage was so different because my skill in reporting was tested. I was not given the privileged to prepare my scripts for my reporting; instead the phone is unexpectedly passed unto me for me to continue describing what is happening at the grand stand. And I must say something because it is on air, and thousands of listeners are listening to me. I must say, that this coverage was the reason why the skill that I have in “on the spot reporting” was totally hone.

Before reaching at Cebu City Sports Complex, we have to walk the route of Sinulog for the street dancing category. And it was not easy because rain had constantly poured but we have no choice but to be in the rain to totally convey what is happening to the thousands of people that are listening to us.

Though, we had walked in the rain, stand for almost the entire duration of the competition with starving stomach, speaking mouth and working mind, it wouldn’t matter for as long as it is in the service of the Filipino people.

Street Party with the Stars!

With DYAB anchors, Juve Villar, Thads Bentulan and Jenny Rica Vidad

Bangi-itan! This is the world I often heard from the people around me whenever they talked about the media personalities in Cebu.
Who would have thought that I will be able to party with Haide Acuna, Rico Lucena, Junrey Nadela, Jun Tariman, Thads Bentulan, Marlon Bellita, Juve Villar, and Edgar Escalante the names, most respected in the Media?
Even the fresh personalities in the media like Carmi Cavanlit, Rachel Dangin, Reno Tallada, Edison De Los Angeles, Carine Asutilia, June Nino, RC Dalaguit and the rest of the team Kapamilya was so accommodating during the party.
Having the chance and to be part of the ABS-CBN Christmas Party was really a good opportunity for us, interns to establish a good working relationship with our superiors. Even if at first, I was so hesitant to join the party because I was thinking that the party was intended for the mainstay employees of the company, still the invitation for us to join by our senior reporters and desk editor was so irresistible.
Media personalities from TV Patrol CEntral Visayas was so energetic to show their presentation during the ABS-CBN Christmas Party 2010.
The experience was one of a kind because I was able to enjoy the party even if there are limitations to be followed.

a gift to serve

"Halad sa Kapamilya" was been my favorite public service program at DYAB. I did really look forward to join and participate for that event. Last November 20, 2010 Grand Halad sa Kapamilya took place. i was really eager to be there because it will be a realization of my long dream to be part of it.

The date was so memorable.. it was my 20th birthday and no matter how tired I was because I had a celebration a night before that event, still I manage to be there. I was at the front table who directly entertain the queries of the people who want to avail the free service.

I am looking forward for the next "Grand Halad sa Kapamilya" for I can now spent longer time at the venue.

love my colleagues!!

The workplace and the people whom you gonna be working with are just two of the factors one considers in selecting the company to work for.

I was so afraid that I might not be accepted by my senior reporters at DYAB the same way as I have been accepted at the Freeman. good thing the perception that the other interns who work at the same company that I've work for now was not true. they said the environment in the newsroom is a bit boring when your the only one intern who is there at the moment but they were wrong. I am so entertain with my seniors, they talked a lot, share a lot and teach a lot. the people at the news room were so accommodating that is why i love going there. they always praise the interns whenever they have good reports.I find no insecurities in the newsroom just plainly good criticism.

The people in DYAB are now considered as my family. I love being with them, true and sincere.

Fun on Field

I always look forward every time I go on field. At first, I was so hesitant to go with my senior reporter because I am afraid that I can't find any news item to report.

Days later, I realized that why should I don't give a try. It was then, when I started loving to be on field. The first field assignment I had was with my senior reporter, Edison De los Angeles. He was so cool and he guided me throughout our field trip. I experienced reporting on board our patrol service. I felt nervous at first but later get used to it. I have been to all the police stations in Cebu City, Mandaue City and Lapu-Lapu City. I witnessed the opening ceremony of "Pasko sa dalan Colon" where we had a little chitchats with Cebu City Mayor Mike Rama. The most memorable field assignment i had was during the official lighting of the Giant Christmas Tree in Fuente Osmena Circle where I interviewed Counselor Margot Osmena and Fuente Police Station Chief, Michael Bastes. Those were just few of my experience at field.

Those moments always encourages me to be attentive and enthusiastic towards my work.
